So I watched the Oscars last night...once again, I'd only seen a handful of the movies that were nominated for anything, and 2 of them were animated:
-Ratatouille (won for Best Animated Feature!)
-Surf's Up (nominated for Best Animated Feature...Ratatouille was better, can't lie)
-Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (won for Best Art Direction, and Johnny Depp was up for Best Actor...I love Johnny, but honestly I think Oscar-worthy performances usually involve more than one emotion)
-Across the Universe (nominated for Best Costuming)
-The Golden Compass (won for Best Visual Effects)
-Transformers (nominated for Best Visual Effects)
-Enchanted (nominated for 3 Best Songs)
Yeah, none of those were up for Best Picture. I don't know. I like to go to the movies, but I don't usually go to the kind of movies that get Best Picture nominations. I love sci-fi, fantasy, horror, animated, and romantic comedies, (wow...schizo taste in movies much??) but Best Picture nominees are invariably dramas. They also showed little clips from the other 79 previous Best Picture winners, in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Oscars. I think I'd seen 5, if that many. Ah, well. That's OK with me.
We may or may not have our new episode of Video Revue up this week...we kinda had to rush through the ending, so we may just redo it next week.
10-Word Movie Reviews!!
-Definitely, Maybe: 3 women, 1 guy. Who will he pick? Go see!
-Jumper: Holy crow, people who teleport! Awesome special effects, fast pace.
-Enchanted: Funniest Disney in years! Animated princess falls into real-world NYC.
-The Birds: Not as creepy as I expected, surprisingly. Slightly cheesy, disappointing.
